Letterpress
The oldest form of printing, in letterpress printing ink is applied to the raised portions of a metal or hard plastic printing plate which is then pressed on the paper or other substrate.
Matte Finish
Flat (not glossy) finish on photographic paper or coated printing paper.
Prepress Proof
A prepress proof is an analog or digital proof that uses inkjet, toner, dyes, overlays, photographic, film, or other techniques to give a close approximation of what the finished piece will look like. Unlike a press proof, the prepress proof does not use the actual printing inks therefore color proofs may not be quite as accurate as a press proof.
Perfect Binding
Method of bookbinding where a flexible adhesive attaches a paper cover to the spine of the assembled signatures is called perfect binding
Spot Color (also known as PMS colors)
A spot color is a specially mixed ink using in printing. Spot color inks come in a rainbow of colors, including some specialty inks such as metallic and flourescent. Unlike CMYK or process color which creates colors by laying down layers of just 4 specific inks, spot colors are pre-mixed and you use one ink for each color in the publication.
